Youth Development Programme
The Community Engagement Team has dedicated youth development staff consisting of Jack Simpson, Senior Youth Engagement Officer, and Gemma Watson, Youth Engagement Officer. They have a vast amount of experience and knowledge in working with young people, and the importance of involving young people has been acknowledged by the development of a youth programme. The programme’s remit is to engage young people in a meaningful and valued way, and to support youth organisations and networks.
Jack & Gemma have been in post for a number of months and have already established strong links with key local partners, stakeholder groups, statutory and voluntary organisations. They have been working hard to identify new and maximise existing opportunities for youth engagement in East Glasgow, developing models which will empower young people through national, local structures and cultures to allow them to have their voice heard and influence decisions that affect them.
The Community Engagement Team recognise that young people form a large section of a community and that it is essential for them to be involved in engagement and decision making processes which affect them and their communities. To support the capacity of young people and engaging them in the process in ways in which they want and value will be central to the Youth Development Programme.
