Community Engagement Advisors

Celia and LeahThe Community Engagement Advisers are in place to support and develop new ways for local people to get involved and influence the plans for improving the delivery of services in their areas. There is a commitment to work with local residents to ensure that community engagement methods meet their needs and are not predetermined without the involvement of local residents and service users. This will include promoting community engagement in a variety of ways, for example, community meetings and conferences, panels, events and much more. There is recognition that there needs to be flexible and innovative ways to engage with communities and that there is a real commitment in East Glasgow to improve the ways local people get involved in community planning.

This work will be underpinned by the National Standards for Community Engagement, which is a set of principles and practical standards to ensure that all involved in the process of engagement work together to ensure the best possible outcomes. The standards will be used to build good relationships between the Community Engagement Team and the local people they work with.

Training and personal development will be made available by the advisers to support the community to participate fully and meaningfully in influencing local service delivery.

Cecelia O’Lone, Community Engagement Adviser, says, “These are exciting times for the East of Glasgow and we know that the involvement of local people in the regeneration of the East End is crucial to its success. Local people have the knowledge and experience to improve their communities and we will support them in this process. Most of all we want to make community engagement an exciting and fun thing to be part of.”
